"Birth is the epicenter of women's power."
“Whenever and however you give birth, your experience will impact your emotions, your mind, your body, and your spirit for the rest of your life.”
Ina May Gaskin
"The parallels between making love and giving birth are clear, not only in terms of passion and love, but also because we need essentially the same conditions for both experiences: privacy and safety."
A doula is a woman who provides emotional and physical support during pregnancy, and during and after birth, for a woman and her family. The type of support provided is dictated by the client's needs, as the doula is guided by their decisions.
As your doula, it is my goal to help empower you and your partner to make informed decisions that are right for you and your family. From what type of birth to have, to how to feed and diaper your baby, I will be a shoulder to lean on and a signpost for further information and help. I will not give any advice, medical or otherwise, but will wholly support the educated decisions you choose for yourself, your baby, and your family. If you'd like more information on what support a doula can provide for you, give me a call or email, or visit Doula UK or NCT.
I am originally from the East Coast of the United States where I attended university in New York for music and theatre; a passion from a young age. Though I still enjoy singing and theatre, I left university and set off on a journey of self-healing and self-discovery, finding myself more and more intrigued by childbirth and gentle birth and parenting along the way. In 2015, my partner Ashley and I became husband and wife and, later that year, I immigrated to the UK. We now live in Oxford with our cat Saffron.
I spend most of my free time reading, talking at people on the TV, singing R&B and Disney songs, dancing with my husband, and knitting and crocheting for family and friends. I also practice Kundalini yoga daily and focus on nightly meditation. Currently, my favourite pastime is baking cakes and cookies to share with loved ones (I must admit, I make the best chocolate cake!).
In June 2017, I completed a doula course with Nurturing Birth and am currently being mentored through the Nurturing Birth mentoring program. Before becoming an Oxford doula, I supported friends and family through their pregnancies and births and aided in raising my niece through infancy. Amongst all other facets of birth, I am incredibly interested in lotus birth, home birth, and gentle womb-to-world transition.
My aim is to empower women to use their intuition and become informed in order to make the right decisions for themselves, their children, and their families. The love and admiration I have for women’s strength and power overflows from me and I hope to help it spread throughout the world.
